L'univers musical du guitariste canadien montréalais OliAstral (Olivier Grenier-Bédard) fusionne le son de la guitare jazz moderne, latechnologie audio numérique et la projection visuelle. À 32 ans, Oli Astral selance dans l'aventure de From the Astral (2022), son premier album en tant queleader. Certains éléments comme des ordinateurs sur scène, des instrumentsvirtuels, des contrôleurs MIDI, des techniques de traitement audio numérique etles synthétiseurs modulaires de Frédéric servent l'imagination du groupe. Lesvaleurs musicales sont cependant encore profondément ancrées dans la traditiondu Jazz. Des choses comme l'improvisation, l'interaction de groupe et la prisede risque sont très importantes dans le processus créatif du trio.

Au cours de son parcours universitaire, le guitariste s'est entouré àplusieurs reprises de mentors de renommée internationale tels que JohnAbercrombie, Jonathan Kreisberg et Mike Moreno. Il s'est distingué lors de sonpassage à l'Université de Montréal en remportant la Bourse du FestivalInternational de Jazz de Montréal en Guitare Jazz en 2012 ainsi qu'en 2013.

Sur la scène jazz montréalaise, Oli Astral a une double identité, celle deson vrai nom : Olivier Grenier-Bédard. Ce dernier est un membre actif du groupemontréalais LEAF, dont le premier album éponyme est sorti en 2017. OlivierGrenier-Bédard est récipiendaire de prix et distinctions tels que le Prix dupublic du Concours La Musique Change des Vies (2015)organisé par le FestivalInternational de Jazz de Montréal et le Prix du Public (2019) au FestivalInternational de Jazz de Rimouski, dans le cadre du Grand Prix LOJIQ avec LEAF.

The musical universe of Montreal Canadian guitarist OliAstral (Olivier Grenier-Bédard) is a fusion between the sound of modern jazzguitar, digital music technology, and visual projection. At age 32, Oli Astralembarked on the adventure of From the Astral(2022), his first album as aleader. Some elements like computers on stage, virtual instruments, MIDIcontrollers, digital audio processing techniques, and Frederic’s ModularSynthesizers serve the imagination of the group. The musical values thought,are still deeply rooted in the tradition of Jazz. Things like improvisation,group interaction, and risk-taking are very important in the trio's creativeprocess.

During his academic career, the guitarist has surrounded himself on a numberof occasions with internationally renowned mentors such as John Abercrombie,Jonathan Kreisberg, and Mike Moreno. He distinguished himself during his timeat the University of Montreal by winning the International Montreal JazzFestival scholarship in Jazz Guitar in 2012 as well as in 2013.

On the Montreal jazz scene, Oli Astral has a double identity, that of hisreal name: Olivier Grenier-Bédard. The latter is an active member of theMontreal group LEAF, whose eponymous debut album was released in 2017. OlivierGrenier-Bédard has accumulated several prizes and distinctions such as thepublic prize of the La Musique Change des Vies Competition (2015) organized bythe Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Audience Award (2019) at theRimouski International Jazz Festival, as part of the LOJIQ Grand Prix withLEAF.
