Biographie
The inexhaustible Rémi Bolduc is always creating new projects. Since his arrival in Montreal in 1982, where he plays and teaches saxophone and improvisation, Rémi Bolduc started playing with the best jazz musicians in town. He records his first CD " Fable " in 1996 alongside Marc Johnson, Ben Monder and Owen Howard. Then he recorded " Renaissance " with his Montreal Jazz Ensemble. After a few years, he contacted the pianist Kenny Werner to achieve a duo project. After their first meeting, Kenny invited Rémi to teach at the prestigious Banff Centre alongside Joe Lovano, Chris Potter and Dave Douglas. From this relationship was born his third album untitled “Tchat " , a duet with Kenny. Rémi turn then his creativity to the world composition and arrangement. He recorded a fourth album in this perspective called " Cote d’Écoute " . While continuing his research, Rémi created a fifth project with one of the undisputed masters of the saxophone, Jerry Bergonzi. Putting forward his new compositions " 4 +1 " was born. Right after this comes the project " Tribute to Charlie Parker " , his all-time saxophone idol, was recorded. With this record, he won a " Felix " for the best jazz album of 2011. Finally, in 2012, he creates the group " Random Masters ", a project of innovative compositions that introduce his new style that combines random with rhythmic complexity and harmonic diversity. An unique and intense experience. He won in Jan 2013, " OPUS " the best jazz concert of the year. Rémi studied with Vince Mendoza (composition and arrangement) , Steve Coleman and lately just has collaborated with Ari Hoenig and Dan Weiss. He recently played with the great bassist Dave Young, the French pianist Baptiste Trotignon and saxophonist PJ Perry and Phil Dwyer. Remi is professor and Area chair at the jazz department at McGill University Mtl. Canada.
